{September 12, 2010}   Feeling helpless

It’s been a little over a week since my daughter Alex has been complaining about a sore throat.  It got worse over the past weekend and on Labor day we ended up in the Medi-Center. That’s when we found out the child has Mano. For the exception of Tuesday, she has missed school the remainder of the week, isn’t eating and is so miserable it just breaks your heart.

There is nothing that the Doctor can prescribe for Mano, you are basically on your own. So I have been trying everything that I can come up with to ease her misery. Daily trips to Walgreens and to the Health store.  Buying everything from B-12 supplement and sore throat spray. I even called the grandma in germany for advise. Making tea with honey, brewing ginger root tea, over the counter pain killers and natural pain relievers, we have it all. And all of them just offering temporary relief  and not really giving her any good retrieve from the constant pain.  And all the while all I can do is just sit here helplessly and watch her suffer. I hate it when she get’s sick. She is a Person that is always on the go, full of energy, funny and always ready with a wise crack remark. The past week has just been aweful for her, and as a mother you want to take the pain away and make them feel better, but can’t.

I am hoping that the last 3 days were the worst of it. Last night I felt her throat and it doesn’t seem to be as swollen anymore and the back of her throat looks a bit different. So let’s hope she is on the road to getting well, I can hear her snore right now, so maybe the Motrin with Sleep aide is helping in getting her to sleep better. I can’t wait to get my old Alex back, she already has a food request for when she is better, Steak and Potato. Not a problem kiddo!

There’s nothing worse as a parent than to have a child who is I’ll. I’m glad to hear that she’s on the mend.
